A Colorado native, I received my MLS in 2003 from Emporia State University with an emphasis in business information. I have worked in libraries for 25 years and have over 15 years training and professional development experience.
Currently working as the Professional Development Coordinator for the Colorado State Library, I am passionate about providing the tools, training, and support library staff at all levels need to provide amazing services to their communities.
I enjoy developing both face-to-face and online training, and my psychology background combined with a strong service ethic helps me design learning opportunities geared towards specific audiences.
I am a regular presenter at the Colorado Association of Libraries annual conference as well as the Colorado Library Consortium Spring Workshops, and I have experience coordinating conferences and other leadership initiatives.
Upon starting as the first Professional Development Consultant for the Colorado State Library, my first project was to develop a vision, mission and goals for this position in hopes of fostering a "culture of learning in order to empower Colorado library staff to positively influence community development."
For the past few years I have been interested in how to best harness the power of social media and other web 2.0 tools to enhance professional development, especially for those who work for organizations who do not or cannot offer much formal training. I am always looking for new ways to harness the power of online training tools in order to create more efficient and meaningful training opportunities.
I am also a regular follower of the Internet Time Alliance I am a proponent of the power of informal and social learning, and most recently intrigued by the concept of a learning concierge in organizations.
